Rocky Patel Fusion |

With regard to food, fusion is usually good or bad, no in between. Mexican pizza? Good. Beet ice cream? Bad. Really, really, bad. So when Rocky Patel, the self-appointed Wolfgang Puck of boutique cigars, decided to create a fusion cigar, aficionados scratched their heads and wondered, “Good, or bad?” The Rocky Patel Fusion is a blend of Patel’s Vintage 90 (the first cigar to bear Patel’s name), composed of rich, natural Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco, and his personal favorite, the Vintage 92, made from aged Dominican and Nicaraguan ligero leaf. The result is good - really, really good. Construction is classic Patel, tight and elegant. True to the fusion theme, there are two wrappers. The outer wrapper comes courtesy of the Vintage 92, an Ecuadorian Sumatra, slightly oily to the touch and packed full of flavor. Inside is a Honduran broadleaf from the Vintage 90 line. The second wrapper also serves as the binder. This is a medium to full-bodied cigar. The draw is slightly loose and the burn even. The aroma is strong and unmistakably Cuban. As for the flavor, remember that fusion is the theme and you won''t be disappointed. Up front you’ll taste the spicy pepper from the Vintage 90. Remove the stick from your mouth though and you’ll find the spicy flavors are followed closely by the nutty creaminess of the Vintage 92. In the end, the fusion provides a strong balance between two fantastic cigars. |
