The Oliva Master Blends I (2003) Produced a Regal Start to a Rare Line.
The Oliva Master Blends I met with such enthusiasm from stogie enthusiasts and list makers of top cigars that the Blend is now in its third rendition. What made the original so appealing? The name tells the story. Each year the masters at Oliva collect data on every tobacco grown on their farms. Flavor, consistency, body, and the time it takes to be perfectly aged are all documented. Standout vintages are noted, with small batches of the tobacco being kept for future products. The Master Blend line was born of this painstaking pursuit of pure puffing pleasure. The choicest vintages of leaf were masterfully blended to create mixes in which the whole is superior to the individual flavor of the parts. This cigar does full justice to Oliva’s time-honored commitment to a complexity of flavor that refuses to sacrifice a smidgen of smooth.
The attractive label nicely offsets a luscious brown Nicaraguan Puro, with a sleek Nicaraguan Sun Grown wrapper, smelling like a fresh brewed cup of hearty coffee. The Master Blend is full of medium-bodied, juicy flavor. The first tastes of the lit cigar amp up the coffee theme to full strength, with a swirl of cocoa to sweeten the pot. As the ash grows, woodsy cedar and oak essences come out of hiding, finishing with a dash of pepper. Rich but not overbearing, the MBI exudes Oliva-worthy class and quality. This rare cigar saw very limited production. An admirable addition to even the most distinguished collections! |
