Macanudo is America’s best selling and most popular cigar brand. The line has a Jamaican origin under General Cigar, but now is produced in the Dominican Republic. The brand brought General Cigar to fame and their unrivaled success when it was released. And is heralded for its mild flavor and superb consistency.
Macanudo Robust is another handmade beauty. Crafted for those who like the Macanudo brand, but desired a richer smoke. That’s what they get with this straight-on medium cigar with full flavor. Inside is an interesting combination of Honduran, Nicaraguan, and the Dominican Republic filler. The Connecticut-grown Cuban seed tobacco binder sets this cigar apart from its Macanudo cousins and is partly responsible for its heavier smoke. And finishing up the one-two punch is the darker Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco.
The tastes begin light, as if the cigar expects you to be doing something more important. The cereal and cedar flavors build reaching their peaks around the final third, and a growing molasses underscores the whole smoke. Hints of tea, nutmeg, and some pepper will fade in and out during the course of the smoke.
Macanudo Robust is definitely stronger than its cousins. But like all Macanudo blends, mild and consistent are the keywords. The Robust is great for longer activities that call for a smoke that won’t get in your way. And is a cigar that you won’t feel like you are wasting by setting it down for a few minutes. This is a great everyday cigar at a fantastic price. |
