Macanudo is America’s best selling and most popular cigar brand. The line has a Jamaican origin under General Cigar, but now is produced in the Dominican Republic. The brand brought General Cigar to fame and their unrivaled success when it was released. And is heralded for its mild flavor and superb consistency.
The Macanudo Maduro, a follow up to the Café line, is probably the world’s most mild maduro. This cigar uses the same tobaccos as other Macanudo cigars. The filler is a mixture of Cuban-seed Dominican and Mexican tobacco. And the wrapper is Connecticut Broadleaf, though extra fermented to give the cigar its dark maduro finish. When in your hand, you’ll appreciate the fine construction of the body. It has the appearance of a cigar that goes well with a nice suit at the conclusion of a business deal.
Like all maduros, half the enjoyment lies in the taste of the wrapper and the sweet Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco doesn’t let you down. You’ll be licking your lips even after the cigar is finished. However, unlike a traditional maduro, the wrapper isn’t very oily, but it doesn’t diminish the taste in the slightest. You just won’t have as much of the flavor on your fingers.
Macanudo Maduro is a mild to medium experience, which is to be expected from any Macanudo. The wrapper gives a chocolate tone to the consistent creamy texture that wafts with the occasional caramel. There isn’t much complexity to this cigar, but that makes it perfect for an introduction to maduros or a quick evening smoke. |
