The Bay of Pigs led Don Julio and Christian Eiroa to the mountains in Honduras. It’s there, in the Ranchos Jamastran factory, that the father and son team manufactures La Fontana Vintage.
That this cigar is not part of Camacho’s premium line is surely an oversight on their part, especially considering it’s Julio’s favorite. That’s okay. At this price you can easily smoke five or six a day. Hmmm, maybe it’s not an oversight.
La Fontana Vintage debuted in 1993 and quickly acquired a number of devoted fans. It has a Connecticut wrapper holding a Honduras binder and filler. It’s well constructed, firm and somewhat veiny with a soft, velvet texture.
This cigar starts off lightly sweet, thanks to a sugar cane gum adhered to the cap. It''''s an enjoyable flavor that will stay with you for several draws. The strength of La Fontana Vintage is officially classified as mild to medium. The flavor, however, is strong, creamy and smooth. After that initial burst of sweetness, there is even a hint of spicy espresso, something you wouldn’t expect in a cigar of this strength.
Camacho named each size in the La Fontana Vintage line after a well-known artist or explorer. No wonder it''''s a smart choice. |
