The La Aurora Preferido is a premium cigar. Picture James Bond sitting with a Preferido in one hand and a dry martini in the other. Ursula Andress can wait.
Hand rolled at the 106-year-old La Aurora factory in the Dominican Republic, the Preferido achieved its fame the old fashioned way, by merit alone. Indeed, only top craftsmen are allowed to roll the Preferido and they roll just 100 each day in a special factory room designated just for the Preferido.
Most Preferidos are rolled as traditional Perfectos. That’s how the line began back in 1903. The Robustos were added later and feature a more modern design. Preferidos are aged over 4 years in oak or rum barrels and arrive lightly dusted with plume, courtesy of the crystallized oils found in the wrapper. Hold it just so and you’ll notice the plume reflects the light. Tapered edges meet at a plump center. Each one of these cigars is truly a masterpiece. They look so classy, especially the aluminum tube varieties, you may hesitate before you reach for one, but not for long.
The Preferido has eight different varieties in 17 different sizes. All feature a Piloto Cubano binder and a wide variety of wrappers including Cameroon, Corojo, Maduro, Connecticut, Brazilian and Ecuadorian. The flavor range is mild to full-bodied. Both Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider rate this line highly. |
