La Aurora is one of the oldest, most respected cigar brands to come out of the Dominican Republic, founded well over one hundred years ago, hailed as the most smoked brand in the Dominican Republic. The 1495 Cameroon 1994 is the same basic cigar as the 1495, with the most notable exception of the rare African cameroon wrapper harvested in 1994. The high-quality wrapper leaves were deemed too small for normal cigars and went into the vaults for 14 years before being used. This unusual aging process enhanced the particularly strong leaf even further. Because of the limited quantities of the camaroon leaf, only 18,000 were produced.
Like the 1495, this cigar sports multiple types of tobacco. The long filler is a mix of Dominican Piloto Cubano, Nicaraguan, Peruvian and Dominican Ligero. This cigar is also bound in the same rare Dominican Corojo as its cousin.
The 1495 Cameroon 1994 is a straight-on medium body cigar that goes well at any time of the day or night, particularly with a beverage. Though given the rarity of the cigar, you’ll reserve it for the most special of occasions. The burn will kick off with a blast of spice and cocoa, but the spice quickly fades and you’ll taste the cocoa along with heavy hints of nut, wood, and a nuance of cinnamon.
It bears repeating that only 18,000 cigars were produced of this blend, in boxes of 10, and in a single size: 5 x 44 Corona. And that was years ago. These cigars simply can’t be reproduced. You find a box you buy a box. Or you’ll regret it as long as you smoke cigars. |
