Joya de Nicaragua Antano |

There’s a lot to love about the Joya de Nicaragua line, or “Jewel of Nicaragua.” The brand was the first line crafted in the first Nicaraguan cigar factory, which opened in 1964. During the 1970’s the “Jewel” was quite popular with politicians and the social elite in the United States. In 2003, the Antaño 1970 was released as a tribute to the rich heritage of the brand. This cigar is directly responsible for reviving a then struggling line, being a highly rated cigar since its release.
The Antaño 1970 is a pure cigar. The wrapper, binder, and filler are all grown in Nicaragua. A full-bodied cousin to the “Jewel’s” Celebracion line, the Antaño boasts the slogan “all muscle, all the time” and doesn’t disappoint. The Maduro wrapper is oily, almost wet in appearance, and that’s your first clue to the powerhouse experience to come, leaving a dull sweet taste on your lips before you even light the cigar.
This full-flavor, full-body cigar hits you head on, leaving nothing for the imagination. It’s a great follow up to a hearty dinner or later in the evening with a glass of single malt scotch. Thick flavors of pepper and dark earth slide quickly into sweet earthiness and hints of espresso and cocoa. As the burn continues, you’ll enjoy how the flavors blend together and mellow a bit as the volume of smoke increases.
The Antaño 1970 is the cigar for the heavy cigar lovers out there. But beware this line has been discontinued and rebranded as part of the Casa Magna line. So snap up any boxes you can find because they won’t be around much longer! |
