Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur |

Gentlemen of a certain age crave authentic, old-fashioned Habanas. Gentlemen of another age don’t know what they’re missing. The Hoya de Monterrey Excalibur addresses that experience gap.
Hoya de Monterrey originated in 19th century Cuba and the Excalibur is a worthy descendent. Now hand rolled in Honduras, the Excalibur is a strong, full-bodied blend worthy of its namesake. Only the top 10 percent of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Honduran tobacco is used to make the Excalibur, surely one reason this stick placed number seven on Cigar Aficionado''''s list of top 25 cigars of 2007. The Robb Report goes even further, appointing it one of the best five cigars in the world.
The Excalibur isn’t much to look at, but believe us when we tell you that King Arthur never had it this good. The craftsmanship is exquisite. More than anything else, its large size proclaims that this is a cigar of substance. It’s got a mature Connecticut Shade wrapper and an oily, leather-like sheen with several small veins. Excalibur is cedar aged and that very noticeable scent is magnified by a beautiful Spanish cedar packing box.
The first puff delivers a sweet, creamy espresso flavor - make that a double espresso. Later on you’ll notice a slightly spicy, chocolate undertone, similar to a Mexican mole. The draw is utterly fantastic and the white ash is nicely compressed. You’ll want to smoke this to the bitter end. |
