Starting with a single factory in Havana in 1892 and branding in 1907, Don Francisco Fonseca found great success and created a legacy of the finest hand crafted cigars which bears his name to this day. Fonseca''s wife continued to run the business after his passing, joining the company with T. Castaņeda and G. Montero to form Castaņeda, Montero, Fonseca SA. This conglomerate continues Fonseca''s traditions, manufacturing cigars by hand under the direction of skilled blenders, including master cigar blender Manuel Quesada, ensuring that each one bears the distinguishing flavors known throughout the world.
Although considered to be a mild cigar by most aficionados, the distinct and robust flavor of the Cibao valley tobaccos blended into each one stands out in its own memorable flavor. Don Francisco Fonseca also came up with unique methods for preserving the flavor of his cigars, such as wrapping them in Japanese tissue paper or sealing them in tin cylinders, practices which are still carried out to this day.
Fonsecas come in many lengths and thicknesses, ranging from 4 1/4 to 7 inches and 30 to 56 respectively, and a wide variety of styles that provide the perfect smoke for any occasion. All Fonseca cigars are manufactured in the Dominican Republic, and the 30th Anniversary Matasa is a pure Dominican cigar through and through. All the rest (Vegas de Fonseca, Natural, Maduro and Sun-Grown Cedar) are filled with a blend of the finest Dominican tobaccos as well as the best leafs offered by their neighbors.
