In 1995 two men at the top of the cigar industry got together and created something special. Stanford J. Newman and Carlos Fuente Sr. pooled their knowledge and experience to bring forth Diamond Crown cigars.
With a ring gauge of 54, the Diamond Crown was the first of its kind. When it debuted, the largest ring gauge the world had seen was 52. This was not simply a bigger is better philosophy applied to cigar making. The thicker band allows the blending of six or seven Dominican Republic tobacco leaves to form the heart of the cigar. The tobacco is aged for five years to ensure the richest flavor possible. A Connecticut Shade wrapper is fermented twice before being applied. The maduro variety uses a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that undergoes the same treatment. The complexity of this cigar''s construction is reflected in its superior taste. Cigar Aficionado affirmed their efforts as outstanding by awarding the Diamond Crown a rating of 92. In 2005 Newman and Fuente set out to create another masterpiece. A fuller bodied cigar, something truly remarkable on the palate. They turned to the Olivia family in Ecuador to supply the wrapper. The El Baja wrapper meshes perfectly with the aged Dominican blend to produce Maximus. Once again, Cigar Aficionado recognized their efforts as outstanding by rating Maximus a 90.
