The Torano family has been in the cigar business since 1916. Don Santiago Torano left Spain and arrived in Cuba in 1916 and became a tobacco leaf broker. Don Santiago had three sons and they all got involved in the tobacco business. The Torano family became one of the most respected growers of tobacco leaf in Cuba. The Cuban revolution of 1959 forced one of the sons, Carlos Torano, to the Dominican Republic where he introduced Cuban seeds to the Dominican farmers and taught them how to grow Piloto Cubano.
Today the Carlos Torano family dedicates its resources to the production of cigars and owns cigar factories in Nicaragua and Honduras. Carlos Torano is known for its Cameroon 1916 cigar, which is made with Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers, Nicaraguan binder and Cameroon wrapper, with a strip of cedar. The Cameroon 1916 contains the Churchill, Corona, Robusto and Torpedo blends. In 2004 the company released the Casa Torano, which has an Ecuadorian wrapper and a blend of Mexican, Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers which are surrounded by a Nicaraguan binder. The company also produces the Carlos Torano Exodus 1959, which includes the Double Corona, Perfecto, Robusto, Silver Corona Grande, Silver Grand Churchill, Silver Robusto Corto, Silver Toro Elegante and the Silver Torpedo Especial. The Exodus 1959 is a blend of fillers from the Dominican, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Mexico. The wrapper and binder are from Honduras and are produced in Honduras. The Exodus Silver is made using Mexican, Honduran and Costa Rican fillers surrounded by a Costa Rican binder and a Criollo Honduran wrapper.
Another famous selection in the Carlos Torano cigar line is the Reserva Selecta. The tobacco is aged for five years and a Connecticut wrapper and Costa Rican Maduro leaf is used to produce it. The Reserva Selecta has a Petit Corona, Robusto, Torpedo and Tin Natural blend. The Signature, Tribute, The Brick and Virtuoso complete the Carlos Torano cigar line. Every cigar in the collection is rich in flavor as well as history and each cigar has a reputation for excellent quality and flavor. Today the Carlos Torano Cigar Company sells over 20 million cigars a year.
