Carlos Toraņo Reserva Selecta cigars are highly rated among enthusiasts. The Toraņo has actually been named Best Honduran Brand by Cigar Cult Journal. Toraņo cigars are made in three countries, Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic and another Toraņo cigar, the CAO Criollo was named Best Nicaraguan Brand. The Reserva Selecta variety is made in the Danli, Honduras factory, where they age them from three to five years. These fine cigars have an excellent draw and a good even burn with a medium bodied smoke and solid ash. They are firmly rolled, mild to medium bodied and they pack a soft cool smoke. The flavor starts as slightly tannic and herbal, which may be from the wrapper. But the taste quickly becomes ultra-smooth with hints of sweet cream, mild vanilla, and a woody undertone with a soft and palatable nutty finish. The scent of the Reserva Selecta is a cross between cocoa and coffee, which are also noted when smoked. The wrapper is made of a smooth, almost vein-less silky Connecticut Shade and Costa Rican Broadleaf; the binder is Indonesian with Dominican, Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers. The cigars are wrapped in cedar and then attractively encased in a crystal tube for maximum freshness.
