Traditionally, the 30th anniversary is celebrated with pearls, elegant and always appropriate. In 1998, CAO celebrated its 30th. Its gift to us, the CAO L’Anniversaire Maduro, certainly follows tradition. The L’Anniversaire Maduro was one of the first box pressed cigars ever made. It is a highly-rated maduro prized by both beginning and more discerning palates. This is a serious cigar, worthy of commitment. The wrapper is vintage harvest, rare Connecticut Broadleaf. The binder is Ecuadorian and the medium/full filler is a Nicaragua/Dominican Republic combo. Cigar Insider and Cigar Aficionado have both rated this beauty 90 and above. When you first open the box, you’ll notice the dark, rich looking wrappers. Maduro leaves are fermented longer and at a higher temperature. That’s what gives these babies their dark appearance. The Connecticut Broadleaf has a slightly oily feel to it. The sturdy aroma wafting over the box hints at what’s to come. The construction is exceptional. Everything about the CAO L’Anniversaire Maduro screams luxury. The flavor is noticeable on the first puff, a complex blend of black pepper, coffee and cedar. Perfect draw. The finish is spicy sweet, like a Mexican mole. You will want to smoke the CAO L’Anniversaire Maduro down to the very end. The ash stays strong and compact and the burn is even. This consistency holds true from cigar to cigar and from box to box. It’s obvious why this premium cigar is so highly regarded and a humidor staple. |
