Bolivar has been an honored and trusted name in the cigar world since the turn of the 20th Century. The brand originated in Cuba in 1901. In 1950, Ramon Cifuentes a famed cigar maker, opened a factory in the Dominican Republic in partnership with the General Cigar Company. The new company, General Cigar Dominicana, was, and is, dedicated to making Bolivar Cigars that honor its Cuban heritage.
From their earliest days, Bolivar Cigars were recognized as premium cigars. That reputation is carefully preserved in the modern versions of the cigars. The original, Bolivars were noted for having a very robust flavor that was well balanced by an overall smoothness. That unusual balance has been carefully preserved in the modern Bolivars. Bolivars are hand-rolled in the Dominican Republic using a fine blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers. These fillers are bound with Connecticut medio tiempo binders. The cigars are then completed with a San Augustine ligero wrapper from Honduras. Strong, but not overpowering, the Bolivar brings together the best in robust flavor and smoothness. Some reviewers have noted a slight note of coffee flavor and just a hint of sweetness. This cigar will provide a long smoke, and is perhaps best suited for more experienced smokers. Bolivar cigars come in four sizes: the Churchill is a 7x49; the Lonsdale at 6.5x45; the Robusto is 5.5x50; and the 6x53 Toro. All are available as singles or boxes of 25, except the Robusto which comes in a crystal tube and is sold in boxes of 8. |
