Ashton Cigars began a devout history of excellence in 1985 when Robert Levin sought to strengthen his family's second generation Philadelphia cigar business with cigars created for the true aficionado of the beauty, strength and regal traditions of the cigar. Starting with the best Dominican fillers, the most superb Connecticut Shade wrappers at the peak of oiliness and silkiness along with a Dominican binder are used for most of Ashton's delicious cigars with the exception of the VSG which has Ecuadorian "cloud grown" wrapper (a designation that lightly refers to the altitude at which the wrappers are grown) that adds a sweet and powerful, almost intoxicating, kick to the company's flagship cigar—the VSG.
Aston's VSG cigars came on the scene in 1999. The VSG name stands for Virgin Sun Grown and only the very best of Dominican Republic fillers are used to create the big, bold flavor that has a potent aroma sure to thrill the most dedicated cigar enthusiast. According to the popular "Cigar Aficionado" the VSG created a "fervor not seen in the industry for years." So popular is this delectable choice of cigars that it is the most popularly ranked non-Cuban brand in the world today.
To make this famous blend of tobacco Ashton took no chances, calling in the experience and dedication of Carlos Fuente, Jr. whose family is known worldwide for fabulous cigars. When released the VSG was an unexpected overnight success whose popularity never stopped. It has a deep, rich, dark color that is enticing to the eyes, and a brisk hearty flavor that is appealing to the taste buds. The VSG is not for the meek or mild. It is a cigar that grabs the sense right from the start and takes them on an ever heightening trip up to the climax of the ultimate cigar experience.
Although it comes in a variety of shapes and sizes the most popular VSG size is the 55 ring Torpedo that carries a delicious cedar flavoring packed with undeniable power. The VSG line was also the first ever to offer a square press and all of them have a peppery earthy taste that is sure to be an instant hit. Rounds are the oldest of all of the VSG cigars and expensive when found because of their rarity. Other limited editions of the VSG that are rare and sought after are the VSG Estate Reserve, and the Ashton ESG.
